Coming December!
Aerospace - Gateway to the Solar System - But First! - Bring Spatiality to the Red Planet!
This profession is amazing! This is THE elder-player facing profession - where grit, determination and smarts are demanded - and rewarded!
Aerospace is not for the faint of heart - fabulous riches of the Asteroids are ripe for the taking, however with great rewards there are also great risks!
The ultimate end of the Aerospace Profession crafting chain will take us years to fully develop. The players will be able to construct Starships, Space Stations, perform Asteroid Mining, travel to all the great destinations of the Solar System and ultra end-game content, make space elevators, harvest CO2 from Venus and travel to the icy moons of the gas giants. Farther down the road 3-5 years out we can play with fusion drives, light sails and world ships and send players off into the local parts of the galactic arm.
Get to own your very own asteroid all to yourself! Just like HiRise and the DTM data the asteroid belt is mapped out to 10,000s of asteroids in the system - with their orbital periods and their composition correct from the catalogs.
Near Mars Asteroid Mining and Deep Asteroid Mining
Divided into two basic techniques - “scoop and bag” and a more traditional mining operation with more of a fixed structure. The fixed structure mining - especially on the larger Asteroids should be a later game release. The vast bulk of the asteroids do not have their spectral classification and so a natural path would be to build and launch your own asteroid observatory so you can identify the prizes. Who would share the prize data with others? Magnetic Mesh Scoops - think very fancy garbage bags Ultra-Low-Gravity Drilling Rigs
Aerospace is not just about the rest of the Solar System, Aerospace is critical to exploring the Red Planet - both with crewed Hoppers, robotic Darts, and constellations of cube Satellites and large Observatories. We will develop the Resource Layers
With Aerospace we will also start to lay out the roadmap of where you are on Mars matters - the different resource layers, the solar irradiance, water ice deposits, known rover missions etc.
Tons of adventuring of the Red Planet - who can resist taking a Hopper to a Lava Tube on the slopes of Olympus Mons and explore those dark tunnels for native Martian microbial life?
Aerospace is the apex predator of engineering - as it is the synthesis of ALL of engineering - civil engineering, electrical engineering, software, materials science, robotics, thermodynamics, mechanical engineering - the whole enchilada!
Ideally Aerospace drives group play with all of these thirsty inputs and it should feel overwhelming for a solo player to build their own space port, starship and capture their own asteroid.
Aerospace will be very thirsty for CH4 and O2 and will compete with the long-distance rovers that are using Methane Fuel cells for Extended Range Missions.
Why do Aerospace: The largest rewarding systems will be out on the other side of Aerospace (the meta shifts) Achievements - many achievements and Server first Achievements Hoppers to get to the Starbase and take a Starship to go do Near Mars Asteroid Mining and Deep Asteroid Mining Hoppers to unlock Away Missions Hoppers to unlock the connection of Settlements Hoppers to unlock the Contested DTMs Only access to Glitter is through PvP and Aerospace deep systems
Gameplay of Aerospace:
Launch Pads - required to travel to Hopper Away Missions, to travel to Duskworks Landing and Waterloo City (and access to Near-Mars Asteroids), required component to create a public Refueling Station, required for connecting DTMs and Settlements
Cryogenic Fuel Tanks - obvious, thirsty use case! Perhaps add a fun recipe or two for a Cryogenic Fuel Tank, Fill a Methane Fuel Cell for Rovers. Strategic placement of Launch Pads and Fuel tanks across Mars and maybe someone can corner the market on “Gas Stations on Mars!”
Ground Control and Avionics - scan the surface of Mars for Hopper Away missions (the network of Pirate Radios and Ground Control stations “listen for missions”, scans for Near Mars Asteroids, and this is one of the early buildings from the Aerospace crafting chains and will be instrumental for the grinding Aerospace EXP between levels 20 and 60!
With those three buildings we have the basic Hopper Station - but there is more!
Hangar - the hangar is awesome, this is where you can store and repair your Hoppers. But in addition to storing them, a Hangar is the building that has the penultimate recipe to CRAFT the Hopper, and to modify the hopper with accessories! Without owning your own Hangar, from time to time you will need to fly your Hopper to a Settlement or Duskworks Landing or Waterloo City and get your Hopper repaired. Players who invest hard and deep with the Hangar should be able to make some lucrative trades as they are the gatekeepers for Hoppers. Roadmap item for a bit later is for players to be able to upload any image they like and apply it as a decal to the Hopper and it updates the NFT. (Obvious nods about moderation requirements - but the basics are abuse this feature once, and soft banned against using again unless you pay a 1000 Dusk fee)
Rocket Fuel Factory - Hoppers and Starships use CH4 and O2 - everyone knows that! But, it needs to be purified and liquified (expensive on power!) to be clean enough to be burnt in these full-flow velociraptor engines! Rocket Fuel will be purchasable on the Marketplace - but later down the road - where you are on Mars will matter, and where the fuel is will matter even more. But in the meantime, players will still need to fill their Cryogenic Fuel Tanks from a Rocket Fuel Factory.
Engine Factory - a dedicated building for the creation of Velociraptor engines. And leading up to the Velociraptor engines are the intermediate parts - Combustion Chambers, Turbo Pumps, etc.
Vulcan Metal Works - A huge sized building that is a combination of Smelters and Machine Shops and more stuff powered by Thorium Reactors. Consumes lots of metals and regolith and produces the key components of the Hopper Frame and Fins, but also the large metal sheets to create the Hangar.
The full set of seven buildings is a Deluxe Hopper Complex!
New Locations: With location beginning to matter with Aerospace and the layout of actual places on Mars! Duskworks Landing - beginner friendly shop - regular supplies, C-R starter blueprints - not an overwhelming number of tabs, this is where the Duskworks Accommodation shop lives Waterloo City - More of the Regular shop, weekly sales, Cantina Coins, Bazaar Coins Phobos Station - more special weekly sales, more exotic hardware, advanced professions gear Gateway Station - really high-end purchases - special stuff - get stuff earlier than Armstrong’s Leap - the city on the moon
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Obsidian - woot!
We are excited to launch our Achievements system with over 140 new Achievements to reward you for your work settling the Red Planet! Most of the Achievements have 5 levels of rewards for increasing levels of difficulty, where Bronze is the easiest to Achieve and Obsidian is the really shiny proof that you are a boss on Mars! Besides 140 Achievements and 5 levels of difficulty we went nuts and we are tracking the exact order in which people make their achievements on Mars! And then using that order of achievement we have even more special rewards: For the Platinum and Obsidian Rewards, the absolute first, second and third Martians to achieve that Achievement have their own special prizes. For the Bronze, Silver and Gold Achievements, the first 2-100 get a tasty reward, and then 101-1000 also get a better treat. For all achievements and for all rankings there is a reward in addition to the glory to Ares that you have achieved! There are also super secret Achievements for you to discover through hardcore gameplay!
NOTE: Automated Tasks will NOT award scoring actions (triggers) towards Achievements, Missions or Leaderboards!
An Introduction
A Hopper is a sub-orbital methane and oxygen "methalox" breathing rocket. Martians use Hoppers to travel around the surface of Mars when the distance is not practical by long distance rovers. Each Hopper is a distinct game play object in the world, as well as on-chain - similar to a Martizen. Hoppers have attributes, take durability damage, can be repaired and upgraded. Hoppers are the gateway vehicle to the Hopper Away Missions coming soon. These Hopper Away Missions are instanced special DTM maps with a large variety of missions and challenges. Both player vs environment and player vs player here! Coming soon :tm:! Hoppers are also the gateway to Port Zilker at Waterloo City, and Port Zilker is the gateway to leaving the gravity well of Mars and reaching the rest of the Solar System! The crafting of a Hopper is a most satisfying result of a series of challenges and crafting chains. Here is the overview: The Ground Control Station is the headquarters of your Aerospace operations. The Ground Control station provides the research and training for the Aerospace profession. Initially some of the recipes are restricted to Martizens with the Aerospace Profession - but after some weeks will be open for all players. Next is the Vulcan Metalworks, this is a beast of a metal processing factory - and eats Smelters and Machine shops for breakfast. The Vulcan Metalworks is key to producing the large Stainless Steel sheets needed for Hoppers and Hangars. The Rocket Fuel Factory takes in Chem Labs and Sabatier Reactors and turns then into a purified and cryogenic Oxygen and Methane factory to produce the fuel for Hoppers (and Methane Fuel Cells to power long range Rovers)! The Rocket Fuel must be stored in Fuel Tanks to be ready to fuel up a Hopper. Intreprid Martians are starting to layout Launch Pads and Fuel Tanks across the quadrants of Mars to act as "Gas Stations" on Mars! The Velociraptor Engine Factory is critical to building the Velociraptor Methalox Engines used across Mars, as well as other key parts. The Launch Pad is a massive collection of Refractory Concrete Bricks designed to withstand the repeated abuse of the powerful Velociraptor Engines as well as the traffic increasing every day on Mars. The Hangar is a very special building where the final assembly of the Hoppers takes place. Additionally the Hangar is used to repair a Hopper from durability damage, as well as upgrades to its range and payload. Finally, the Hangar will be equipped with automated paint applying machines that will take your settlements' logo or another image of your choosing and apply it to the Hopper and be displayed in-game and on the NFT!
Orbital-level View of the Buildings and major Crafting Chains of Aerospace
An overview of the buildings involved and a review of the crafting chains - working backwards from the Hopper itself, we present the crafting journey here of making your own Hopper Launch Complex!
You are going to want your very own Hopper (and it is its own NFT!) to get about on Mars whenever you want to and to where you want to go! We will be layering in more and more game mechanics where your location on Mars - or the Solar System matters. This will also be increasingly true for your Martizens (and your Hoppers!) as well. Some locations on Mars will be supported by a sort of public transport system of Hoppers and in the future, players will have the option to add their Hoppers to the fleet of public transportation.
To assemble your Hopper, you will of course need to collect and craft all kinds of parts. These parts come from existing buildings in Million on Mars as well as from the Velociraptor Engine Factory and the Vulcan Metalworks. The actual assembly of the Hopper happens in the Hangar. The details of the Hopper assembly recipe will be revealed later, but for now, know that every single Hopper created on Mars will require some Glitter as an input. The Hangar is created with a bunch of Stainless Steel Plate which are crafted in the Vulcan Metalworks and a whole lot of other stuff. The Hangar will be featured in an upcoming release, but you could imagine that it would be wise to collect some Common Engineering Bay blueprints! The Velociraptor Engine Factory will also be featured in an upcoming release, but as a bit of a heads up to craft this building it will consume Common 3D Print Shops, Common Machine Shops and Common Engineering Bays.
The Launch Pad rounds out the three advanced Aerospace buildings that are part of the releases over the coming weeks, the Launch Pad is crafted with a ton of Refractory Concrete Tiles which are crafted in the Chem Lab.
Consider these notes above a heads up for coming up for these three advanced Aerospace buildings. In addition to those notes above, those buildings will follow the new Schematic to Blueprint pattern described here (link).
The First Four Aerospace Buildings The Ground Control Station is your own flight operations center, and where you do your fundamental research and development and train your Martizens and yourself in gaining Aerospace levels (not in the Library).
Starting with the Ground Control Station, we are excited to offer two different methods to obtain the Ground Control Station Schematic from gameplay! See the ALFA Tournament from Dr. Jan Spacek for details on how to win a schematic for as little as a donation of a 1000 Ice!
These ALFA Tokens may be obtained through a variety of turn-in missions.
Alternatively to winning this raffle tournament players may accumulate ALFA Tokens and purchase the Ground Control Station from Dr. Jan Spacek - he will trade a Ground Control Launch Schematic for the price of 1500 Dusk and 100 ALFA Tokens.
Crafting the Ground Control Station Schematic into a Blueprint:
Once you have obtained your Ground Control Schematic, you will need to craft the Blueprint from the Schematic, to do so use a new Recipe on the Engineering Bay that consumes the Ground Control Schematic plus a whole Pirate Radio Blueprint and 100 Glitter to craft the Blueprint
Setting up your Ground Control Station for Operations
You will need to complete three one-time recipes to ready your Ground Control Station for Operation:
Airlock and Telemetry Setup
Antenna Tracking & Sub-Assembly
Ground Control Energy Core System
The new building pattern for Aerospace Buildings
With the Aerospace expansion we are pushing gameplay hard. As Million on Mars is a build-in-public project, it was sensible for us to start with a simple blueprint model, where a player buys an NFT and installs it - and then starts crafting. As we have brought on-line fundamental game systems such as upgrades, professions, player minting of blueprints, and now Glitter - we are ready to take this up a notch! Each Building in Aerospace now has these five phases: 1. Obtain the Schematic 2. Craft the Schematic into a Blueprint (using Glitter) 3. Install the Blueprint onto a plot of your land 4. Complete the one-time Setup recipes to ready your new building for crafting 5. Upgrade the building via Shards to unlock new recipes and abilities The Setup phase has been introduced with the Thorium Reactor and the Composter where these buildings unlock their power after the player performs a one-time setup function. These Setup recipes allow us to deliver more lore around the experience of the building as well as an opportunity to sink commodity resources and drive the overall game economy. With the Aerospace Expansion each of these buildings have 2-4 Setup recipes that will challenge you and your fellow settlement members to unlock these new buildings. The Schematic is our latest innovation to balance the knowledge represented on how to make an item vs the item itself. Learning a new recipe to craft an item is always such a good feeling in an MMO, but it is tricky to get the balance right. Make it too easy to obtain the recipe and it cheapens the experience. Make it too hard to get the recipe and you make the game frustrating for many, and perhaps over balanced for the lucky few that have managed to get the recipe. With Schematics they act like a scroll in a fantasy game, where once you use the Schematic it is consumed in the process of making a Blueprint. This allows us to have schematics be a bit easier to obtain, and yet not leave an item on "BRRR mode". In lore you can think of a Schematic as the digital plans and key parts from Earth to craft one of a given building. Schematics are sellable in the marketplace. Glitter is an input component to turn a Schematic into a Blueprint The seven new Aerospace buildings all share the pattern where a Schematic plus Glitter plus one of Core Set or Factory Expansion Blueprints are required to craft the Aerospace Blueprint. This is keeping in-line with our design goal that Glitter is consumed for low-frequency and higher impact events and events that interact with a blockchain. Creating a Blueprint is an absolutely perfect use-case for Glitter. For those of you without a Founders Token or a Martizen, you may currently obtain Glitter by purchasing Wrapped Glitter being sold by another player. As the Glitter Treasury fills up, we will begin to introduce gameplay systems - especially inside of Aerospace to win Glitter through gameplay. Aerospace Shards & Upgrades Aerospace has a robust roadmap planned, and compared to earlier expansions the Aerospace Shards will be more challenging to obtain and we will be releasing additional abilities and recipes overtime to reward the players who invest in their buildings.
A Sub-Orbital Methalox breathing machine to get around on Mars!
For traveling around on the surface of Mars, Human rated Caravan Rovers are great, but with a top speed of 40 kph on "paved" Martian "roads" and 10-20 kph for rough terrain, it is time consuming to go farther than 200 km by rover. Starting in the 2050s clever Aerospace Engineers from across the greater Ad Astra Unlimited talent base created a home-grown "Hopper" Methalox rocket. Each of these Hoppers is traditionally assembled by their own crew of engineers, and each have distinct properties like payload, range, durability and accessories. Martians take a particular pride on building and customizing their own Hoppers as a form of rebellious human culture as humanity goes through the post-scarcity abundance of robotic labor. Settlers use their Hoppers to get to Duskworks Landing, to Waterloo City and to explore the vast richness that Mars has to offer. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Aerospace is a robust roadmap of features and content, on the first release there is the Ground Control Station, the Vulcan Metalworks, Rocket Fuel Factory and the Fuel Tanks. The next release for Aerospace will have the Velociraptor Engine Factory and Launch Pad. Then the Hangar and the Hopper!
Duskworks Landing is a bit of a rough and tumble town in Valles Marineris, it is also the home of Lane Dusk (as he likes to be called now)
You the players will be rewarded in Dusk for all of the buildings here in Duskworks Landing as we are keen on having Million on Mars a player driven and player created world! Go find for Wayne a.k.a. Beowulf and Jesse Le Beau in Duskworks Landing for the scoop here.
Players must complete the associated Missions to gain access to the Aerospace Tournaments.
Settlers at Duskworks Landing are working together to build the launch complex at Launchpad 0b100111a. Building out the launch complex will greatly ease the logistics for new settlers to reach Waterloo City. Below are the Buildings players will be using to donate materials and score points in the brand new Aerospace Launch Tournaments.

The Vulcan Metalworks can be thought as a Smelter/Machine Shop hybrid for the new Aerospace materials and components needed in creating Hoppers (Except for Engines, which are made in the Velociraptor Engine Factory). It can also create the Cryogenic Canisters needed for the production of Rocket Fuel and purified gases.
The Vulcan Metalworks is needed to make Stainless Steel and Alu-Lit Alloy, two new metals used primarily for Aerospace. Stainless Steel is made from a mixture of Steel and Chromium, while Alu-Lit Alloy is made from Aluminum and Lithium.
Stainless Steel and Alu-Lit Alloy are the primary components needed for all Hopper components. Requiring a large amount of them in order to make. From all of this crafting, the Vulcan Metalworks will produce a byproduct known as Slag.
Certain recipes will require more Slag Storage than the maximum a maxed out Vulcan Metalworks can hold. This is intentional, you need to upgrade the Slag Storage tanks at max level in order to perform those tasks.

The Rocket Fuel Factory is an extremely advanced chemical distillery, so can be thought of as a mixture of a Chem Lab and C.A.D. This building primarily focuses on the purification and mixture of gases. It can purify both Methane and Oxygen into Purified Oxygen and Purified Methane respectively. Oxygen and Methane can be mixed into Impurified Methalox while Purified Oxygen and Purified Methane can be mixed into Pure Methalox.
Due to how hard it is to contain Purified Methane and Oxygen, you will need to use Cryogenic Canisters to move them between buildings. Cryogenic Canisters can be made within the Vulcan Metalworks.
After you've created Methalox using the Rocket Fuel Factory, you can deposit them within Fuel Tank buildings in order to extract Rocket Fuel from them. More on that in the Fuel Tanks page.
Purified Oxygen and Purified Methane will have additional uses later on besides just making Rocket Fuel.

The Rocket Fuel Factory has two different Task Slots. One for the Fill Canister recipes and one for the chemical processes.
Most buildings in the Aerospace Expansion will require a series of Setup tasks. These are one-time only recipes that you must complete before you can start using a building.
The Rocket Fuel Factory has some minor RNG to the Setup Tasks. It has three tasks that have a 30% chance of succeeding. You will have to repeat the task until it succeeds to continue. The tasks only take 3 seconds to complete however.

The Fuel Tank's main function is the distribution of Rocket Fuel. Due to the volatility of Rocket Fuel, it is unable to be traded on the Marketplace. Duskworks advises settlers to instead set up Fuel Tanks filled with Methalox as rentable "gas stations" for settlers to pick up Rocket Fuel for their Hoppers.
Rocket Fuel can be created out of Pure or Impure Methalox, filling three cryogenic canisters at a time.
Rocket Fuel can not be sold on the in-game market. Additionally, there is no current use for Rocket Fuel but will be used soon for Hoppers.
